About Peace in the Weeds

Welcome to Peace in the Weeds, where you will find garden tips and canning recipes for preserving your harvest.

Hi everyone, I’m Jen. Just a middle aged woman that found her peace of mind while pulling weeds. A much welcomed escape from the daily grind. It has become my go to activity to relax and clear my mind. For me, there is nothing better having my hands in the dirt.

I started my first garden 9 years ago after I purchased produce from the grocery store and a few days later it was recalled. That inspired me to grow my own food. So I began to research anything and everything that pertained to gardening. After seeing how much food I grew, I wanted to grow even more. I even got to the point where I was growing things I didn’t like just to see if I could. Those things I gave away to co-workers and friends.

With the abundance of fresh produce I was growing, I had to quickly figure out what to do with it all. I had to learn a new skill. Preserving and canning. When I was younger, my grandmother, aunt and father canned certain things every year to last them through the winter. So that was my focus. It turned out not to be as difficult as I thought it would be.

During my research, I began to learn about many different herbs and spices. They have healing benefits such as, antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory to name a few. Which means less trips to the doctor. There are so many uses for them aside from just cooking. And guess what, you can grow most of them too.

I’m here to encourage everyone to grow and preserve their own food, plus share all of the garden tips, canning recipes and herbal/natural remedies I’ve learned. So stay tuned!
